Thanksgiving Blessings
December 1, 2004
I've never had such a Thanksgiving as I had this year. Mariellyn and I hosted the SonShine House International Thanksgiving with 22 guests from five different countries and about as many different languages. What a treat it was to spend such wonderful time with our new friends who are "family" to us in many ways. We had turkey, Ohio stuffing, N.C. dressing, holiday mashed potatoes, sweet potatoe casserole and pumpkin pie for the American contributions.... and all our friends brought a food item to make the meal definitely multi-cultural. We all took part in the "Blessing Dressing" of "Tom the Turkey" (see picture) and we had live flute music while we ate. (thanks, Rachel!) Then, as a beautiful example of the combination of countries and cultures...we sang songs in several different languages, with the "grand finale" being Silent Night sung in English, Slovak and German. Psalm 100 best sums it up...."Shout for joy (there was such joy that night) to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness (you should have seen the smiles and heard the laughter...); come before him with joyful songs (we did that...in several languages!). Know that the Lord is God (oh, He's soo good) It is he who made us (just because He loved us), and we are his (He wants to spend eternity with us...wow!); we are his people, the sheep of his pasture (and He is such a caring shepherd). Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise (I'm ready; let's go!); give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good (all the time) and his love endures forever (and ever and ever and ever...); his faithfulness continues through all generations. (and we have several generations represented at the SonShine House November 25...what a blessing)."
